Backlapping hand mowers
Can anyone recommend a backlapping gadget to assist me on Ransome Ajax, Webb wasp, witch ,whippet and qualcast B1 for example ?
Hand backlapping is not ideal !
Ransomes did a kit for this back in the day. Should be easy enough to replicate the basics...
So much information and misinformation is available on this site and others, that there’s nothing to be gained by cluttering up with more.
Any further answers that help me are most welcome. The site doesn't. Thankyou.
Have you tried a search? as said this subject has been covered many times, search backlapping on this site brings up 60 results & loads more if you use other search engines & YouTube etc !
I watched an American guy give a guide on backslapping, think the video is on you tube, the same principle I used, took off all chains, sprockets and gears depending on drive mechanicals, attach the cylinder nut, socket on nut with drill attachment, wind cylinder with adjusters equally whilst applying BL paste, reverse cylinder with drill until all blade edges are equally lapped, most BL pastes will wash off with water so dry well afterwards and oil, lubricate, ideally you should have cylinder and bottom blade ground properly as b,lapping is really for maintenance, not to put a new cutting surface on a mower, but give it a go, I was surprised at the improvement,

Also, proper back lapping paste is water based so that it washes off thoroughly when the job is done. Valve grinding paste is oil based and it’s difficult to get rid of all traces.
