Early? Suffolk Colt - what have I here?

I spotted this today at the side of our road with a sign saying "Free - please take" - so I did. I'll be honest - I have enough on the go as it is, but I figure I'll sell it and (as it cost me nowt) put the money to the Air Ambulance, so I'm asking you lot to date it for me and tell me anything I've missed so I can advertise it. Bloomin' cheek, I guess, but there.

It's complete bar the silencer and handlebar grips, as far as I can tell (right down to a relatively dent-free grassbox), the engine turns, the cylinder is free. I'm assuming it's an early one as I vaguely recall reading that the sardine can tank was early, it's got a brass rather than plastic fuel tap, and it's got a fly-off cord starter rather than a recoil.

The machine doesn’t look like it’s been messed with and someone may be able to accurately date it by that serial number but by “ features”  I’d say mid 50 to early 60s. The features are a top banjo fitting on the carb and the split pin oil dip stick. If you drop off the carb float bowl and it has a spherical float , the parts book says 1954 to 56. After that the float would be the more familiar drum shape with the needle moulded into it. Surprising to see the front rollers in such good condition.
May make a nice addition to someone’s Suffolk collection with little more than an oily rag clean up.

Thanks, Angus, appreciate that. I'll advertise here first, probably in a few weeks once holiday is done with.

Not at all Adrian, its one of the aims of our club to save, preserve & re-home old mowers & you are certainly playing your part with the help of our very knowledgeable experts.
