Old ATCO identification - PLEASE

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I am restoring my Atco cylinder mower. To obtain some assistance I am attempting to identify the model. It has a functioning Tecumseh engine.

See pics. Grateful for any help.

It’s a Heavy Duty B 20/24. It was made with no major changes from the 1950s through to the late 90s and with a few changes as an Allett today. Depending on how it’s been treated and service , the areas of weakness are the dog clutch on the end of the cutting cylinder and the multi plate main clutch. That has friction plates which may include asbestos so normal ppe and hygiene should be observed. Fasteners and threads on older machines are BSF BSW.  UNF and UNC on later ones .

Tecumseh are no longer in business but there are plenty of parts , original or pattern , still available.

Thanks Wristpin. That all makes sense. B20 looks correct as it has 20ins. width blades. Have replaced the clutch plates. However when moving the clutch to disengage it the retaining plate doe not hold the plates together. Any ideas why this should be and how to correct the problem? Any suggestions much appreciated.

The roll pin (16) used to shear on early machines and was replaced by a stronger Spiral pin of greater diameter requiring a modified shaft (30). Also, the little countersunk screw (29) had a habit of working loose . Memory says that it may be left hand thread - but time passes!
