I have some sad news that some of you may already know.

Our Chairman Bernard "Robbie" Robinson died earlier this month after a long illness. He had not been well for some time and was seriously ill over Christmas. Despite making a recovery, the effects were ultimately too much to overcome. Despite this, he remained in good spirits and we exchanged emails just a few days before he died to discuss some club affairs and arrangements for some of our forthcoming events. Fortunately, he was able to spend his last days at home with his wife and other members of his family.

Although I had been fearing the worst the news still came as a shock. I informed the committee a few days ago but have been waiting until I had details of funeral arrangements before posting the news here.

Robbie’s contribution to the club cannot be overestimated. He served in a number of roles on the committee over the years. I will be writing much more about his involvement - which dates back almost to the founding our our club - in the next edition of Grassbox. Despite knowing that he had intended to stand down in May, as mentioned in the most recent Grassbox, it will still leave a hole in our club that will be difficult to fill.

Please contact me by email if you need any other information.
