Textile Industry in Arbroath

Arbroath had a long textile and hemp industry. Before making lawnmowers, Alexander Shanks Jnr registered a patent in 1835 concerning "Certain Improvements In Machinery for Preparing And Dressing Hemp".

A brief account of the town's textile industry can be found in "The Textile Industry Of Arbroath Since The Early 18th Century", published in 1954 by the Abertay Historical Society.
