Sale of William Lewis's Property
William Lewis's property at Brimscombe was sold by order of the court of chancery. This was the result of cases involving Lewis v Ferrabee.

Of freehold property, late of Mr. William Lewis, of Brinscombe, consisting of clothing mills (with steam and water power), workshops, dyehouses, and trade buildings, called Brinscombe Upper and Lower Mills, at Brinscombe aforesaid, with dwelling-house, garden, and appurtenances; three cottages, a respectable dwelling-house and garden, and piece of land adjoining, and about 4 acres of pasture land and rack ground belonging to the mill; two pieces of meadow land, containing 8 acres and half, a piece of wood land and ground called Tranter's-hill, near the Slad, in the parish of Stroud, and containing about 16 acres; and a wood or grove called Hales-grove, at Todgmoor, near Brins- combe, and with a cottage and garden upon it of about 2 acres ( Ferrabee v.
