Budding Patent Retailer - F W & T Richmond of Salford
John Ferrabee's advertisement in the Gardeners Chronicle on 18 March 1848 lists "F. W. & T. Richmond, Ironmongers of Victoria Bridge, Salford" as agents.
There may be earlier references to the business being an agent for the lawnmowers, although it displayed at the various RASE meetings also attended by Ferrabee. There is, however, no mention of lawnmowers in the advertisement below published in the Farmers' Almanac in 1847.
Richmond & Chandler had a long association with selling lawn mowers and grass (agricultural) mowers for many years.
At an exhibition in Dublin in April 1851, a Budding Mower is listed as made by Richmond & Chandler and is claimed to be an "improved make."
The Ferrabee Improved was introduced in 1852 after John Ferrabee's Registered Design No 3074 was approved on 2 January 1852. Whether the mower at the Dublin exhibition was a Ferrabee or another make, such as a Shanks of Arbroath, is not known.
