Budding Patent Retailer - Herbert Room of Birmingham
John Ferrabee's advertisement in the Gardeners Chronicle on 18 March 1848 lists Mr. Herbert Room, Ironmonger of Bull Ring, Birmingham as selling Budding's Patent Mowers.
There may be earlier references to this arrangement but none of Herbert Room's own advertisements, which appear from 1844 onwards mention, Budding's Patent or lawnmowers in general. Room had a long life and died in 1889 although it is not known for how long his business sold lawnmowers. An advert in an 1849 book called Cornish's Stranger's Guide Through Birmingham mentions "Horticultural Implements."
Herbert Room's business was part of the Great Midland Emporium which was located at the Bull Ring, Birmingham.
