Surviving Buildings at Earl of Ducie's Uley Ironworks

The site of The Earl of Ducie's Ironworks at Uley, Gloucestershire, photographed in 2025. Around 10% of the buildings survive including three buildings: Shepherds Mill; the adjoining house; Press House.

In the first photograph there are blocked up mill style windows and a large brick arch blocked in the gable wall.

Edwin Beard Budding, Richard Clyburn, and George Lister all worked at the ironworks, devising new and improved machinery and equipment such as the adjustable spanner, the Uley Cultivator, and improvements in carding machinery for the textile industry.

At its height in the 1830s, before The Uley Ironworks, the mill boasted three steam engines.
