James Ferrabee & Co -12in Improved Lawn Mower

This 12in Ferrabee Improved lawnmower was probably made sometime during 1857, based on published claims for the number of machines made. The lawnmower is one of two Budding-style lawnmowers on display at the Museum in the Park, Stroud.

Given the date of the machine, it is likely that it had originally been fitted with the front castors as described by the "improvements" registered by Ferrabee and the full-width wooden roller was added at a later date. Wooden rollers were used more often from 1861 onwards.
