Greens Claims 8000 Lawnmowers Sold in Previous Four Years

A small but significant advertisement appearing a few times in the Spring of 1861, where Greens claim production figures of over 8000 over the preceding four years. Further, Greens claims to be selling around 200 a week at this point which if continued for a year would result in annual sales of around 10000.

By comparison, Ferrabee (in its various guises) produced around 8500 lawnmowers in their 33 years of production (1830 to 1863). Of these, No 8403 is the youngest known survivor and is now on display at the Museum in the Park, Stroud.

  • Greens Patent Noiseless, Double Action, Self-Sharpening, Self-Cleaning, Grass Cutting, Collecting, and Rolling Machines for 1861.

GREEN'S PATENT LAWN MOWERS have proved to be the best and have carried off every prize that has been given in all cases of Competition. The sale has now reached above 200 weekly. Above 8000 have been sold within the last four years.

The above machines are the most simple and easy to work, and less liable to get out of order than any other Lawn Mowers extant.

Illustrated Price Lists may be had of THOMAS GREEN, Smithfield Iron Works, Leeds; or W. GREEN, Victoria Street, bottom of Holborn Hill, London,  E.C.

Orders from unknown correspondents must be accompanied by a reference or remittance.
