Vertical Steam Engine at Erddig Hall
A typical mid-19th century "small" steam engine built to power machinery in mills, factories, and workshops. This photograph of a preserved engine at Erddig Hall can be compared to James Ferrabee's Vertical Steam Engine as exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. It can also be compared with Ferrabee's Vertical Steam Engine design of 1853. Hundreds of foundries and engineering companies built steam engines during this period, all to their own style and design.
