Lock Keeper's Cottage at Upper Framilode

No trace of the Stroudwater Navigation can be seen on this side of the road but this late 18th century lock keeper's cottage survives.

At one time in the early 19th century one Thomas Beard was lock keeper here although it is not known whether he was related in any way to Edwin Beard Budding's mother. He was dismissed on 7 June 1814 for "fraudulently secreting sums of tonnage money", according to Joan Tucker writing in Gloucestershire Society for Industrial Archaeology, April 2007, Issue 1.
