Lodgemoor Mill House, Stroud

A mill had been at Lodgemoor since at least the 15th century, various local families have owned the mill, which also suffered several fires at the site, notably in 1807, 1811 and 1871, when James Ferrabee rebuilt the main mill building opposite the house in brick. It is a surprise when walking the public footpath that dissects the site to come across the Mill owner's house. An entry in The Buildings of England: 1 Gloucestershire by David Verey and updated by Alan Brooks, states: "early - mid. 18th century facade, with modillion cornice and blocking course, three storeys, ten bays and windows with moulded stone architraves. The doorways have rusticated surround with Ionic columns and segmental pediment."  A building of scale and architectural grandeur that assimilates to be an English country gentry house. To the rear, 17th century windows can be seen.
