The Office of The Stroudwater Navigation Company.
This office building on the Stroudwater canal, or Navigation as it was properly called, is now known as Bankfield House. John Ferrabee in suppling iron castings and other goods to the Stroudwater Navigation Company would certainly have visited this building. Edwin Budding with family links to the canal company would no doubt have also visited.
The grand classical facade is purely show, and an earlier building repurposed, as the rear of the building shows a stylistically earlier phase.
The interconnecting Thames and Severn Canal which ran to near Lechlade also constructed similar buildings with classically inspired facades with vernacular working cores.
