St John the Baptist's Church, Pitchcombe
Completely rebuilt in 1819 by William Franklin, the church would be alien to Edwin Budding's ancestors who were broadweavers in the parish during the 18th century. As with most churches in the Stroud area, St John the Baptist has an excellent collection of tombs, some as early as 1656. Earlier antiquarians on memorial inscription recordings noted several Budding graves in the churchyard, but these are now too degraded to read.
