St Stephen's Church, Moreton Vallence
A parish next to Whitminster or Wheatenhurst, as it was called in Budding's day. Some of Budding's relatives lived in Moreton Vallence parish. The church is seen from the north side, which is more interesting than the south side which greets the modern traveller. A Norman moated manor site is next to the churchyard. Protected by the porch, the north doorway is a fine 12th century example of Norman or Romanesque work, which was already 700 years old in Budding's day.
