Budding's Improved No. 8043

The 19in "Budding's Improved" lawnmower at the Museum in the Park, Stroud has James Ferrabee's 1857/8 improvements and a post-1860 front wooden roller. In around 1863, during the last embers of lawnmower manufacture at The Phoenix Ironworks at Thrupp, the company of James Ferrabee & Co. became known as "Phoenix Iron Works Company" and thus this is cast on the side frames along with serial number 8043. This is the youngest of the five known remaining Stroud-built machines.
