Old 17th Century Mill at Chalford

A small and very picturesque mill, probably dating from the late 16th or early 17th centuries, in the grounds of the former Halliday's Mill at Chalford. The end gable has blocked Cotswold stone style drip moulded mullioned windows and ovolo tablet. This mill is also on the River Frome, as was Thrupp Mill, a few miles downstream. John Ferrabee and Edwin Budding travelled to Cirencester in May 1830 to meet Arnold Merrick to get the agreement indenture written and would have certainly passed here, unless they hitched a ride on a barge up the Thames and Severn Canal.
