Sheppards Mill, Uley

In 1837, local land and mill owner Edward Sheppard went bankrupt. His mill at Uley became the premises of George Lister & Richard Clyburn, under the patronage of The Earl Of Ducie. Edwin Budding worked at the Earl of Ducie's Ironworks and among notable inventions such as a  joint patent collaboration for a vegetable cutter, he registered an adjustable spanner. Richard Clyburn subsequently patented a similar design..
