Crossing and Chancel of St Swithun's Church, Hempstead

Edwin Budding married Elizabeth Chew in St Swithun's Church on Sunday 13 May 1821. The Chew family and Budding were described on the wedding certificate as residing in the Parish of Littleworth. This was an extra-parochial area near Gloucester, which in the 19th century was used for marriages by people from elsewhere and those who required a "clandestine" service which required less paperwork.
