Bliss Mill in Chalford

It is said Edwin Budding worked as a carpenter at Chalford. Two of his children were baptised in the parish church over the road during the 1820s.

Budding's partner in the lawnmower patent was John Ferrabee of Thrupp. Much later in the 19th century, his grandson, through his son James, John Fullton Ferrabee registered a patent with William Dangerfield of Bliss Mill (No. 9801, 29 July 1886) for forming umbrella and walking stick handles. However, their business partnership was dissolved after a few years.

Bliss Mill dwelling house is believed to be the same mill as depicted by Edward Smith in his 1852 painting "A Chalford Mill".
