Plaque Commemorating Site of Canal Wharf
The Thames and Severn Navigation was built in the late 18th century, so already well established when Edwin Budding was the "jobbing Engineer" as he is often described. His partner in the lawnmower patent, John Ferrabee had interests in a canal carrying company and gave technical advice to the Thames and Severn Canal company, most notably on their aged beam engine at Thames Head, three miles from here. He also used the canal for receiving materials and shipping goods, such as Budding's Patent Lawnmower. A modern industrial estate now occupies the site of the canal arm and wharf which served Cirencester.
