St Swithan's Church, Leonard Stanley
This church was built in the 12th century as part of a monastic priory dedicated to St. Leonard. In Budding's time the parish was known as Stanley St. Leonard and the imposing building was, as now, the parish church.
John Ferrabee's wife Hester Baker came from "Stanley" and John and Hester were married at either St. George's just down the road in Kings Stanley, then called Stanley Kings, or here at St. Swithan's in 1818.
Many of the Beard family, local mill owners, are also buried in the churchyard.
