Pike Bridge, Eastington

The original Pike Bridge of the late 18th century had its hump removed and was widened in 1924. Then around 1970 a modern low concrete bridge was installed. The present bridge of 2005 has improved some head clearance in anticipation of when the Stroudwater Navigation is reopened for narrow boats. Underneath the bridge some of the original brickwork of the 1770s can still be seen. In Edwin Budding's day, the area in the vicinity was known as "Chippenham Platt."
