Budding Patent Model - Lettering

It is possible that the model was too small to cast the "Budding's Patent" lettering in relief on the side handles, as on the full size Budding's Patent machines. Or perhaps this model was pre-production and the inserted alloy panels with "Budding's Patent" etched on were applied after it was decided to market the lawn mower with that name. We will probably never know.

Original paintwork with foliated scroll decoration can be seen below the lettering on the frames. This can be compared to a sketch of a Budding's Patent in the Ransome's archive in The Museum of Rural Life, Reading.
