Marquis 20” bottom plate

Hi all,

sorry new member with a few questions!

Next up - bottom plate.

I have identified I have a mk4 Marquis with a A15 engine.

I have been trying to adjust the cylinder and have found that the bottom plate doesn’t have an even lip along the whole blade - almost no lip along a small 3” section so I am assuming it’s been damaged ?
the part number I found in the manual doesn’t come up anywhere but I can find MBA7017 with the six holes - is this the one I want ?

thanks

That’s the correct number. Get some new screws as well.

Have the cutting cylinder ground , remove the bottom blade and clean up the face of the sole plate / bottom block and give it a smear of clean engine oil or dilute Copperslip before fitting the new bottom blade. Then get the new blade skimmed, neither they or the block are not always dead flat . When you reassemble the cylinder bearing carriers **to the bottom block , add a bit of Copperslip or grease to their pivots and treat the adjuster screws to new stiff nuts. I prefer the all metal Aero nuts but Nyloks will do. Do all the coarse adjustment with the cutter unit out of the machine and leave the final fine adjustment to assembled back into the chassis, chain fitted with a bit of slack left for future adjustment.

** When fitting new or cleaned bearings , renew the felt seals having soaked  them in clean engine oil for an hour or so first.
