John Ferrabee Writes His Will

John Ferrabee's will is dated 7 April 1831.

Edwin Beard Budding was not related to John Ferrabee but (according to H.B. Randall writing in 1952) he was the biggest beneficiary of the will. As well as a great engineering and invention partnership between the two men, there was obviously great respect for each other.

After his purchase of the Thrupp Mill and foundry site for £4000 on 5 July 1843, John Ferrabee amended his will with a codicil in November that year to reflect newly gained property assets in the Thrupp/Phoenix Ironworks site.

Edwin Beard Budding received nothing from the will as he died in 1846, seven years before John Ferrabee in 1853.

  • John Ferrabee made his will April 7th, 1331. After several specific bequests he gave, devised and blueathed: All the rest residue and remainder of his real and Personal Estate unto Edwin Beard Budding, his heirs an assigns upon trust to manage sell exchange or otherwise alter any pert or parts thereof as therein mentioned until his youngest surviving son should attain the age of 21 years and than upon trust to convert all his trust estate into money if necessary in order to make a just division thereof between his wife and children, giving to one child as such inall as to another and to his wife not less than twice the share of any one of his children. He directed that the share of a child who should die under the age of 25 years without lawful issue should form part of the trust estate to be divided as above, and that any sum or sums advanced to establish any child before the final division should be reckoned as part of the share of such child.
