Macallister clutch problem

My neighbour brought his Macallister rotary mower round last night as starter would not work. Starter had seized but I fixed that ok now, but I noticed that the clutch lever is very tight and seems to grate as you pull it up. Cable itself seems ok but I suspect something in the clutch under the mower is not as it should be. Mower model is MLMP47SiSSP46. Have looked for a workshop manual on line without success.
