Collection, Preservation and Display of Old Lawn Mowers

Mountfield Empress

A brilliant machine that was owned for many years by my late grandmother and then by me. We have had it for around 18 years and I would guess that my grandmother bought it in the early-mid1980s as she was an early adopter of technology. It runs well, no squeaks, motor and wheel bearings seem OK, used last year. Motor frame is a little rusty. Cast Al chassis. Composite / plastic grass box; blade replaced with the later “larger aerofoil” design in around 2009. Red paint coming off chassis in places, Mountfield branding part falling off. Instructions and blade spanner included. I also have the cable for it with mains plug and mower connector. Not sure of the length but I would guess at 40m.- I can measure when it stops raining!. Cable has deteriorated over time through the orange sheath (no wires were exposed) and has been repaired with electrical tape. Cable was chopped through once and repaired with a male x female outdoor spec connector which I have wrapped with electrical tape. We would keep it but my wife now struggles to use it - the Al chassis is quite heavy, so we have bought a lighter plastic battery mower.. Further pictures and video can be provided and let me know if you have any questions or queries
